Derrick Quinney shared some important points; meals, concession, charging or free, what are we doing, one or both, why should I pay someone to come to the Gathering. It should come from the heart, not from the pocket, what can we offer, we should have a give away; items would indicate where family members are from i.e., Saddle Lake to bring an item with Buffalo logo and exchange with other areas. Grass roots - let's not get carried away from the heart to the pocket. Names on committees to help out, a good reminder from where we came from; we need to pay our own way, this is a visit. Pow-wow, to dance for enjoyment and to meet other people. We should have a feast everyday, donate groceries by family members. Each family cooks a meal a day, so the same people will not get stuck with the cooking.
Other ideas discussed: security will be a major cost, big tent rental for eating, fresh food everyday, 2 memorial round dances; everyone donates for giveaway and food; Elder Council suggested to attend each meeting for advisory board, to follow traditional protocol, to give tobacco when asking for advice, Elders to be given 4 colors for 4 directions.
Suggested to register under Societies Act for annual gatherings.
Rocky Wade/Theresa Wade donated $100.00 at Frog Lake Meeting.
Derrick's father will advertise for the gathering on 97.7 CFWE FM Radio. Roger Fox for radio announcemnts; put up posters at hockey tournaments, posters with date of next meeting; area VP's to stay in contact, we need addresses from everyone.
